Trenton Small Business Week Mayor’s Awards Announced
State Barber Shop, Miranda Consulting and Cosmo Food Market to be recognized at Trenton Small Business Week Kickoff Breakfast on Monday, October 16.
Trenton, New Jersey — October 12, 2006 — The Trenton Small Business Week organizing committee today announced the 2006 Mayor’s Awards for three Trenton companies voted by the local business community to be honored for outstanding achievement. The awards will be presented by Mayor Douglas H. Palmer at the Kickoff Networking Breakfast for Trenton Small Business Week scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16 at the Trenton Marriot on West Lafayette Street. The breakfast’s keynote speaker will be Norm Brodsky, the Inc. Magazine columnist and a 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Winners of the Mayor’s Awards include: State Barber Shop, 116 South Warren Street Joseph Festa, proprietor, as Trenton’s Small Business of the Year; Miranda Consulting, 1261 South Broad Street, Margarita Miranda, president and CEO, as Most Successful New Business of the Year; and Cosmo Food Market, 901-905 South Brunswick Avenue, Janusz and Anna Sypniewski, proprietors, as business with the Most Improved Appearance.
“The Mayor’s Awards recognize businesses that through their own exemplary initiatives best reflect the spirit of the City of Trenton’s renaissance,” said Taneshia Nash Laird, director of the city’s Division of Economic Development. “Trenton’s revitalization is a cooperative effort between public and private sectors and our 2006 Mayor’s Awards winners clearly demonstrate how the small business community can take leadership roles.”
All businesses nominated for the awards had to be located within the City of Trenton. Nominations were first reviewed by Trenton Small Business Week’s Mayor’s Awards Committee before three finalists in each category were submitted for public vote. Award winners are the consensus choices of public and private sectors.
Presentation of the awards at the October 16 Kickoff Breakfast are part of festivities that help set the tone for Trenton Small Business Week’s purpose of expanding business development in the greater Trenton area. Over a period of five days, more than 4,000 entrepreneurs and local business owners will participate in workshops, a business expo and networking events to increase business insights, access resources, and form new business contacts.
